At the Heart of Play…
The Story Behind the Name…
In 2019, as I began my private practice in Wyoming, I knew I wanted a space which made anyone who walked in feel seen. I was speaking with a colleague to determine a name, knowing my emphasis in practice is play therapy and trauma. I remember saying “at the heart of play and therapy is feeling seen, heard, valued, cared for, and validated. I want others to know they can feel safe enough with me to share parts of themselves they may not have shared with anyone else. I want to create a space which reflects all of that”. My colleague smiled and said, “I think you found your name… The Heart of Play”. This is how they journey began and how the journey continues to go. It has always been my belief when we as providers practice with empathy, compassion, integrity, curiosity, and intentionality, we create spaces each of our clients can heal and feel whole. I believe whole-heartedly in this approach and advocate for this in all I do. While the name may say "play", I want you to know, as you are reading this, all are welcome. As a Play Therapist, I have learned play transcends age and demographics. We all have parts which deserve to be connected and greeted with a childlike spirit. We all deserve to feel a sense of freedom and lowered inhibition which comes with play. Now, I am excited to bring my vision to Iowa as I continue to embark on the journey of helping others feel a greater sense of purpose. We all have parts which need to play and be seen and validated. I hope you find that here.
A holistic approach
It it imperative for myself, as your therapist, that all of who you are is integrated into the therapeutic process. At The Heart of Play, we will work to create a treatment plan which reflects your values and respects your unique identity and sense of self. Together, your treatment will help to integrate the parts of yourself and the environment you feel and have felt disconnected from. You deserve to be validated— all of you. At the epicenter of hope is a sense of worth and validation, your treatment should reflect that.
